About Masala Cafe Chettinad

Authentic chettinad cuisine

Located at 839 Newark Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07306, Masala Cafe Chettinad operates as an indian restaurant serving Jersey City in New Jersey. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Jersey City, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across New Jersey run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 11 am–1 am. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Masala Cafe Chettinad at (201) 420-7635; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is masalacafechettinad.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.6 out of 5 on Google across 1,710 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded indian restaurants in Jersey City.

Jersey City is in New Jersey, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Jersey City is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New Jersey's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Tried the Ambur Goat Biryani, Nalli Gosht Biryani, Chicken Pulav, Dosa, and Paneer Biryani. All the dishes tasted good, and the service was friendly and prompt. The cleanliness was okay and could be improved, but overall it was a good experience. I’d be happy to visit again.

I recently visited Masala Cafe Chettinad and honestly, the food was outstanding. I tried their biryani along with Chicken 65, and both were packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The biryani was aromatic, well-spiced, and not overly heavy, and the Chicken 65 was crispy, juicy, and full of authentic taste. I also had the Dindigul Thalappakatti-style biryani and Gongura chicken biryani, and both were absolutely exceptional. The Dindigul biryani had that signature deep, rich flavor, while the Gongura chicken biryani had a tangy twist that made it stand out in the best way. Overall, everything I tried was delicious and well-prepared. Definitely a place I’d recommend for anyone who loves proper South Indian style biryani and bold flavors.

Authentic South Indian - Tamilnadu style food πŸ˜‹ loved the food, friendly service, the staffs are warm, friendly and welcoming and they recommend good food suggestions ☺️. It was a pleasure to meet them and my whole family of 5 had a wonderful time conversing with the staff and enjoyed the delicious food πŸ˜‹. My favorite was Nalli with Parotta, Fish fry, Ambur mutton biriyani (5/5) highly recommended πŸ˜‹, and masala kalaki. Thalapakatti mutton biriyani was okay (had too much masala and bit salty) we shared feedback with the staff πŸ‘. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR AUTHENTIC INDIAN FOOD πŸ˜‹πŸ«‘ Respect 🫑.
